Some years back I came into possession of a Amazon Fire HD 8" 7th generation tablet. The thingy was more or less useless for me as during the time I got it, in 2020, there was no chance of loading an alternative firmware onto it. And who wants use a device with Fire OS on it other than a TV?
But, some years later, now in 2023 the magicians over at the XDA developer forums did their magic again. https://xdaforums.com/t/unlock-root-twrp-unbrick-fire-hd-8-2017-douglas.3962846/page-17#post-81166313
Even with the 5.3.7.0 firmware the Fire HD tablet can be rooted. YES!
Thanks to other magicians at XDA developers I was able to install Lineage OS 17, which based on Android 10, onto the 2017 Fire HD. https://xdaforums.com/t/rom-unofficial-10-lineageos-17-1-for-amazon-fir…
That is good enough for me for now. It allows me to use the tablet as a device to be used while teaching. Or as universal remote. Or something else. Perhaps you have an idea!
Thanks to the developers who did all the work! You guys are amazing!
